“It is never too late for art”
— Inspiration —
I grew up in the lush, river-flanked town of Trichy in southern India. I still vividly remember the time when I first heard the call of the muse. I was about 10 years old, and it came in the unexpected form of a breathtakingly beautiful carved door in the house of one of kids I walked to school with. I remember being so eager to get to school every day just to catch a glimpse of that door. I felt such inexplicable joy every time I saw it and was in awe that a person made something so beautiful with their hands. Ever since that time, a tiny seed of desire to be an artist, craftsman, or maker of any kind has been growing within me.
— Journey —
Throughout my school-going years, I enjoyed indulging in the arts in a variety of forms. I particularly delighted in the beauty of kolams (mandalas) I made everyday in front of house. I loved watching my father make his meticulous engineering drawings, and pretended to emulate him. I spent countless hours drawing from magazines and I took up every passing fancy for a craft.I continued learning from various teachers along the way in India, Singapore and US, both in person and online, most prominent of them being Dr.Sivananda Nyayapathi, Sadie Valeri, Jeff Watts and Clayton Hudnall. After a two decade long journey I now consider myself fortunate to walk this path of being a creator and to stay connected to the long-lost sense of wonder I felt as a child for beauty created with hands.
